It’s extremely important to have some time to yourself as a mom and that doesn’t mean to have a whole day at the spa it could be just a half an hour at Starbucks. Most moms don’t understand that some time is better than no time at all, even if you get a few minutes completely to yourself - it can be complete bliss. Sometimes I like to just sit on a sofa and sip on my tea and coffee and gather my thoughts or catch up on my emails and text and it can be super relaxing. Dedicate some ME time on a daily basis, set a goal of something you would like to do for YOURSELF and squeeze it in your schedule. If you think that’s impossible, you’re wrong!
Let’s start, suppose you wake up and you want to go for a nice jog, now try to figure out how you can squeeze it in your schedule, now if you have a small baby take them along on a jog if doable, or get it done when your kids are at school or when husband comes home from work and can watch the kids. Your goal can even be something simple like grabbing some hot coffee and bagel for instance, you work towards that goal, as a mom you get stuck in the web of work, household work, cleaning, kids, family etc so it’s really easy to get stuck so it’s important to have some time even a few minutes kid and hubby free all to yourself. Try these if you’re stuck (again just suggestions) if you don’t know what to do.
Remember like mentioned before, it’s really changing your mindset and giving yourself importance and priority, happy mom = happy family! Having some ME time de-stresses, makes you feel like you have some control and plus it’s important for the kids to understand that moms needs sometime to themselves! So set your goal(s) today and try hard to achieve something cute and simple that makes you happy! Society has unfortunately placed a lot of demands with being a Mom, the moment you are pregnant really, if you’re skinny OMG she doesn’t eat enough! If you gained too much weight, OMG she’s so fat ! After pregnancy weight gain is another topic. When you decide to nurse or not nurse OMG she doesn’t nurse, gives formula milk instead! Can we stop with the mom bashing?? Everyone’s situation is unique and what you may see is not what really appears to be. Look at everyone’s circumstances and situation through an empathy lens.
Also, those poor moms that work full-time and have to hear the negative comments “OMG your kids are in daycare all day long?” Well duh you can’t take them to work, so of course they’ll be in a daycare so what?! Please don’t let the Mom guilt get to you, I know a few of my friends go through it and it really saddens me. If you decide to continue to work for financial reasons, career advancement or you just like it, that’s great! If your contributing to the workforce AND being a mom and wife that’s a lot of work and deserves a pat on the back! This brings me to full-time moms, if anyone thinks we just sit around and eat bons bons all day you’re wrong!!! The moment we wake up to when we fall asleep is constant work - cleaning, picking up dropping off kids, Doctor appointments, homework, extra curricular classes, laundry, errands , groceries, washing dishes, preparing dinner, cleaning up, putting kids to bed etc. Also, we don’t get any time off, it’s a 24-7 job and we don’t get paid only with smiles and hugs! So don’t think being a stay at home mom is easy because we don’t have to work. Let’s bash less and uplift moms more, if someone is having a crazy day remind them of how wonderful and amazing they truly are. If you see a struggling Mom offer some help before you roll your eyes. We try really hard to raise good little human beings it’s nice to be appreciative more and judged less. I’m so tired of some moms that always blame their kids and schedule as an excuse to not be able to keep up with their appearance. “Oh I don’t have time! I have kids! It takes me too long to get ready!” Here’s the thing, you can’t expect a genie to appear to make you look like a hottie patootie! So either stop whining about it or put some effort into it. So, if you miss your old body pre babies then work out and go on a diet. If you don’t like how you don’t have time to get ready then work on your time management. Your kids and family shouldn’t be holding you back from keeping up. This is only for the moms that want to change their appearance but are too lazy to make the change and whine about it all the time. You should always try to look your best for no one but yourself, not your kids, not your hubby but YOU! Maybe these tips might help make it easier:

If you look good you will feel good. You’ll be surprised by how a little blush on and lipgloss and cute jeans and a top can do! Getting kids to eat healthy can be tricky so its important to instill healthy eating habits right from the start. Get them used to drinking water over juice, plain milk over chocolate milk, wheat bread over white bread and etc get it? Here are some tips that you can use for kiddos to embark on a healthy eating journey. - Get a plastic divided platter and cut up your kids favorite fruits and serve that, if it looks pretty trust me kids will eat and enjoy it. This works great when the kids come from school as a snack. - Try alternatives, instead of say regular chips get baked chips, save on the calories and fat, reduced fat Oreos to regular Oreos, skim or 2% milk, wheat pasta, brown rice you really just have to start switching out for lighter, healthier alternatives. - Try mixing sparkling water with a splash of orange juice, my daughter actually think this is soda! LOL - Smoothies are a great way to pack protein, fiber, calcium and vitamins in one drink. Keep the base with flavored or plain yogurt, grab some bananas, strawberries, apple juice or OJ and bam throw it in the blender. - You can always use leftover smoothies and pour into popsicles mold for a delicious frozen treat. - When you to go the grocery store, let the kids pick their own favorite fruits and veggies, you'll be surprised how excited they get to eat what they picked. - If your kids are not into drinking water, try infusing their water with their favorite fruit (strawberries, lemons, cucumbers), I did this for my son, ice cold water with cucumbers and he drank more water than he would if it was just plain water, remember forming the habit is actually the hard part. - In the areas of the house where your kids play, leave their sippy cups/ water bottles, I have mine set up in every section of the house so the kids tend to drink a lot of water, its almost like a cue when they see the bottle to drink water! - Pack your car with fruits and veggies for a road trip, if you have a small cooler, pack with ice and start putting the fruits, veggies, cheese sticks, yogurt etc in different ziplocks. Make sure you pack a quantity you know will be used, excessive amount will have to be thrown away. When you're in the car for a long time doesn't necessarily mean kids should load up on junk food for hours. Just remember, these are ways to incorporate healthy eating habits on a daily basis, does not mean you shouldn't let kids touch junk food, candy etc its really all about having a balanced diet. These are some tips you can use to fit in your daily schedule, it really is all about managing your time efficiently
- Put on a mask while you’re doing some cleaning (vacuuming, washing the dishes, laundry etc), once you’re done wash it off? Now was that very time consuming? - After a hot shower, get a blackhead extractor tool and clean up your black and whiteheads, the steam from the hot shower opens your pores and it’s a good time to clean up, if you don’t have the extractor tool use the blackhead nose strips instead, change your clothes meanwhile and bam take off the strip off your nose, ouch! - Sometimes I’m ready to wear my cute sandals and notice my polish on my toes chipping away gross! That’s why I love Sally Hansen Instadri nail polish, colors are great, dry up in 60 seconds and require only one coat. - To whiten your teeth without getting it done professionally, try the whitening gel with trays, in ten minutes you will see instant results. You can even apply this while you're getting ready or even when doing some housework. I use Plus White 5 Minute Speed Whitening System from Walmart. - Don't have time to wash your hair? Dry shampoo will be your BFF, I use Battisse Dry Shampoo, it really does absorb the oil from the scalp and also your hair will smell great! - I use perfumed body lotion, the fragrance lasts longer than perfume or body spray. So all day you can smell nice and fresh! |
